Satoshi Kon (今 敏) was a Japanese anime directer, writer, and manga artist. His artistic vision and penchant for blending reality with dreams and the subconscious made him one of the few modern artists pushing anime forward. Mr. Kon is best known for directing Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Paprika, and Tokyo Godfathers. He also directed the psychological horror anime series Paranoia Agent.
Mr. Kon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May of 2010, and passed away at the age of 46 on August 24, 2010. You can read his final words here.
Mr. Kon was working on a new film called The Dream Machine at the time of his passing. It has recently been announced that production on the movie will continue, though doubtless the completion of the movie will be bittersweet for both the fans and those at Madhouse Inc. (UPDATE: production has been temporarily halted due to financial difficulties.)
Blog run by oversteeped.
I have all ready posted the first one on my other blog, but I just thought I’d keep them together since they’re really the only two I have right now. I really love the show [Paranoia Agent]… It’s a really beautifully animated show as well as a psychological thrill ride. Please check it out if you haven’t seen it! :))
Tsukiko and Maromi - June 2011
More Paranoia - October 2011
Setsuko Hara
She appeared in six of Yasujiro Ozu’s films. She is called “the Eternal Virgin” in Japan and is a symbol of the golden era of Japanese cinema of the 1950s. She suddenly quit acting in 1963 (the same year as Ozu’s death), and has since led a secluded life in Kamakura, refusing all interviews and photographs. Her last major role was Riku, wife of Oishi Yoshio, in the 1962 film, Chushingura. She was the inspiration for the protagonist of the 2001 movie Millennium Actress.
Paprika piece I did for “versus” assignment, my partner is doing Inception. I listened to the parade theme many times while working on this and was a bit inspired by Zhou Fan.
